Linking with Doodle Bugs!

Join me for Doodle Bugs Teaching Linking Party!
It's a blast!

I missed last week so I will be sharing the last 2 weeks!

First of all....

AND also the Alternative Assessment.

Due to technical difficulties.

It was to be our last year to do this anyway...but it's weird how it all came about. I'm sure if you are a teacher who works for a district using the KITE website for testing, you know all about it.

There was a tremendous amount of work went into preparing for this, the scheduling alone was a nightmare. I am sad for those who worked so many additional hours.

Second....

I was visited by our amazing superintendent of schools and my principal
saying that I am one of five teachers in our district chosen as a
BP Teacher of Excellence!
I am blown away!

It still seems surreal.

Third...

I went with friends to see "On Golden Pond" at the Valley of Performing Arts in Wasilla.
So wonderful, the actors did a great job.
I feel so fortunate to see these plays and get to spend an evening with good friends.
The people who built the set didn't disappoint!

Fourth.....

I mentioned this book last post. I am using the  "Step up to Writing" program and in this lesson we used the cards accompanying the book to make sentences. Next, they figured out which words or phrases told an action, a what, when, who, or where.
I am liking this program!

Fifth....

I was in Palmer this week and just liked this view.

Don't forget to link up with Doodle Bugs if you haven't already!

Paula

Five for Friday...Link up with Doodle Bugs Teaching

Helllllooooo!

I am still on sick leave and my weeks fly by without too many events to report.
I'll do my best...here goes.....

First...there is a pretty good book I am reading.

The author, Helene Segura, has just the right balance of humor and real world helpful advice.

Second...wondering
what is going on at school, with my kids and lesson plans...

and when the doctor finally releases me...how will I EVER catch up???

Third....Cold and Snow

Fourth....Exercise!
Walking outdoors with Scooby and....

walking with Leslie Samsone....I'm up to two miles and the stretch.

It is perfect for an out of shape, on sick leave, teacher.

Fifth.....accommodation!

Purple lens glasses!
They help with the lighting that  bothers my vision-those pesky black spots followed by a headache.

and

another stress reliever......CATS

Are three cats too many?

Happy Thanksgiving!

ESY....Week 4...One more to go!

Linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching!

Began the week with this cute octopus!
This guy was in a book I found in my cabinet...yes you heard right!

A BOOK!

Remember in the old days....we used those to have access to lesson ideas?

Anyway, the book is from

Teacher Created Materials,
Thematic unit: Sea Animals
Early Childhood

We read
( this book has beautiful artwork, vivid colors and rhymes)

and made one of these maps to see how many animals we could remember from the book! They were pretty excited about it, I am wishing we had done this type of activity more this summer.

Next, they completed and drew pictures of sea life from the map. The worksheet is from the amazing Sea life theme book from
Teacher Created Materials

Cool counting game!
roll the dice.....count....add....color in the total. Sometimes they roll over and over before getting a new number, no problem!

This is a freebie from

We read

and made...

I have made many versions of a rainbow fish over the years, and I think this is my favorite!
In the past, I have made it too complicated and it takes quite a lot of time. This guy was quick and the students could make him as colorful as they wanted with markers. Of course, the
GLITTER
is the best part!
(another paper plate creation is born!)

The kids were so excited to take theirs home, I didn't get pictures, this is my demo model.

Fireweed....inverted colors!
just some fun....

There is one more week of Summer School to share and since I am one week BEHIND in presenting it, I'm actually flying to Oklahoma!!! after this post.

I will post the last week's activities while on vacation....maybe.....might be later...
(yes! I'm going on vacation!)

Later,

Five for Friday...August 29, 2014

The last two weeks have been busy, I am linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching at last!

ONE

Moving!
We are officially home owners! It's been 8 years since our last move and wow, do we have a lot of STUFF!

We have moved many times and I highly recommend renting a U-Haul truck for 24 hours, it is well worth it.

TWO

The joy of moving large appliances up and down stairways!

THREE

Helping pets adapt to a new home

FOUR

The mega shindig that every employee of our school district attends was Friday. We had Barbara Morgan as one of our speakers. She is amazing and a great speaker. Barbara is a teacher and an astronaut. Her story is inspiring.

FIVE
Fall is beginning to show......

the fireweed is turning to "smoke"

I love the reds and purples together

I haven't gotten very far with finishing my classroom, it is functional and most of my students are taking their lessons in regular classrooms, but next week will be another shift in the entire school schedule, keeps us on our toes!

Later,

Paula

Five for Friday...Saturday..Sunday!...January 26, 2014

I am a bit late for the Doodle Bugs linking party...but arriving none the less!

ONE
The BIG event of the week was we got a new car! It is still amazing to me...we used to keep a car until the wheels fell off and this time we traded it in after three years.

The 2014 Ford Escape!

TWO - FOUR
The objective: Use yes and no switches to indicate continuing an activity.
The activity: kick the pyramid of cups.

Before requesting we knew that kicking the cups is a favorite activity. Before I asked him to answer yes or no, I modeled it: "___, want to kick the cups?" and pushed the "yes" switch. Then we kicked the cups.
Next time I asked and expected him to do the answer on his own. He kicked his legs for a bit, but I repeated the question  until he hit the yes switch.

Then we proceeded. I push his chair close enough for him to reach the cups with a little kicking effort. After repeating it a couple of times, he would pull his leg back to get ready for the kick as we approached the stack.

Success! We repeated three times.

FIVE

Our weather has been ridiculous! All the snow and ice is melting, temperatures have gotten as high as 50 F ! I'm sure the real winter is hiding around the corner, ready to pounce on us. We are trying to enjoy it while it is here, it makes our parking lots and driveways a mess.
 Have a wonderful week,
Paula
