Five for Friday...Link up with Doodle Bugs Teaching

Helllllooooo!

I am still on sick leave and my weeks fly by without too many events to report.
I'll do my best...here goes.....

First...there is a pretty good book I am reading.

The author, Helene Segura, has just the right balance of humor and real world helpful advice.

Second...wondering
what is going on at school, with my kids and lesson plans...

and when the doctor finally releases me...how will I EVER catch up???

Third....Cold and Snow

Fourth....Exercise!
Walking outdoors with Scooby and....

walking with Leslie Samsone....I'm up to two miles and the stretch.

It is perfect for an out of shape, on sick leave, teacher.

Fifth.....accommodation!

Purple lens glasses!
They help with the lighting that  bothers my vision-those pesky black spots followed by a headache.

and

another stress reliever......CATS

Are three cats too many?

Happy Thanksgiving!

Five for Friday...November 6, 2015

I'm not back to work yet, but I can probably pull 5 things out of my hat! My focus is on health at the moment instead of lesson plans! Lesson plans are easier I think.

Let's link up with Doodle Bugs Teaching and share your week.

This isn't exactly healthy, but it is pretty good and HALF of it IS healthy!

Pumpkin Spice Almonds and candy corn is delicious mixed together!

Taking my blood pressure 4 times a day (when I remember). The smallest thing can make it go up. My life is pretty calm at home...no big decisions are required at the moment...
I am concerned what it will do when I return to work.
and yes....I'm on medicine to help keep it down.

Two MRI appointments this week!
The second one was using contrast...I really hate needles and my veins are very uncooperative.
It only took two sticks to get the contrast in, add to that I was laying down with a plastic bird cage looking mask over my face while it was happening.
I am proud of me for not freaking out.

I found this cartoon on Google, it cracks me up because that is how it sounds! I had on headphones with music, but sadly couldn't hear the music when the machine was at  loudest which was most of the time. More MRI humor at

Here's a picture from Alter Everything blog of the face mask.

 Machine1500x375
She talks about pretending she is on a beach, I did something similar...I was sitting by a lake drinking coffee.

I am really hoping my brain has healed...but not sure I'm ready to handle the stress of my job.  : (
But ...you know...gotta work..

Speaking of handling stress....I am reading a book that may help

I am only in the first chapter. So far, there is a lot of talk about being positive about yourself, seeing the good in YOU, one of the questions: List positive things about yourself...I couldn't think of anything...I would think of something and then disagree with myself! So I have a ways to go.

We've gotten some snow and are expecting more this weekend!
I am taking a walk every day and attempting to get back in working shape--ha!

Take care and talk to you next week,

Paula

Professional Development on Veteran's Day...Linking with Doodle Bugs....and a Moose!

ONE
I didn't get around to linking with Doodle Bugs this weekend, so I'm catching up on Veteran's Day or more accurately, night! Our school district cleverly gave the students the holiday off and set us up with a Professional Development Day. Sunday we finally had some serious snow fall and I had to get up extra early to prepare and get to the PD meeting on time.

It had rained before it started snowing...so the doors were frozen shut...

TWO

Our district has grown so large that when we all get together, parking can be a problem. Today we had to walk a little ways to get to the meeting place. It's a scenic path!

THREE

The speaker, Tricia McKale Skyles presented the STOIC framework. She is very entertaining, using humor to help get the point across. The three hours went quickly!
STOIC  stands for:
Structure the environment for success
Teach expectations
Observe ( monitor, supervise)
Interact positively (build relationships and provide positive feedback)
Correct fluently (calmly, consistently, immediately, respectfully)

One of my favorite quotes from Ms. Skyles today:
Arguing with a kid is like mud wrestling with a pig, both of you get dirty, and the pig loves it.
She said she heard it in Kentucky.

FOUR

As I was driving into my driveway, I was met with a welcome sight...

FIVE

Last, but certainly not least, I want to thank my dad for his service to this great country
This is dad and my little sister a while back : )

love you Dad!
