Linking with Doodle Bugs!

Join me for Doodle Bugs Teaching Linking Party!
It's a blast!

I missed last week so I will be sharing the last 2 weeks!

First of all....

AND also the Alternative Assessment.

Due to technical difficulties.

It was to be our last year to do this anyway...but it's weird how it all came about. I'm sure if you are a teacher who works for a district using the KITE website for testing, you know all about it.

There was a tremendous amount of work went into preparing for this, the scheduling alone was a nightmare. I am sad for those who worked so many additional hours.

Second....

I was visited by our amazing superintendent of schools and my principal
saying that I am one of five teachers in our district chosen as a
BP Teacher of Excellence!
I am blown away!

It still seems surreal.

Third...

I went with friends to see "On Golden Pond" at the Valley of Performing Arts in Wasilla.
So wonderful, the actors did a great job.
I feel so fortunate to see these plays and get to spend an evening with good friends.
The people who built the set didn't disappoint!

Fourth.....

I mentioned this book last post. I am using the  "Step up to Writing" program and in this lesson we used the cards accompanying the book to make sentences. Next, they figured out which words or phrases told an action, a what, when, who, or where.
I am liking this program!

Fifth....

I was in Palmer this week and just liked this view.

Don't forget to link up with Doodle Bugs if you haven't already!

Five for Friday...um...Saturday!

Doodle Bugs is a wonderful blog that shares many great ideas for teachers, each week we are given the opportunity to link up with her and share our week. It doesn't have to be just about teaching, it can be anything that is going on that you would like to share. I enjoy visiting other bloggers and seeing what they share about their lives in and out of the classroom.
Please join us if you haven't tried this, we all need to connect.

ONE

This week we were on a deadline for turning in grades, IEP progress reports and preparing for testing next week.

We still had time for some fun with our spelling words.

We numbered the eggs and told students the word to spell after they picked their egg. They thought it was great fun and requested repeating it.

TWO

We are focusing on improving listening comprehension.
It is a real challenge for my students with language delays. Just understanding the question can be so hard. I am incorporating our writing assignments into it.
I chose books they like and get excited about.
It is going pretty well!

THREE
What a difference a week makes!
Last week we were knee deep in snow and this week it's raining, and we are cleaning off the deck.
The cold is not gone yet...but it's on the way out...
eventually.

FOUR

I love these things!
They don't really go well with the Weight Watchers program, however, 12 of them counts as 3 points and it's
DO ABLE!

FIVE

I am looking forward to seeing my grand kids tomorrow, they are coming to our house to hunt eggs and eat hamburgers! I was motivated to do some house cleaning and managed to hit the 10,000 step mark on my FitBit!
WOOOO!
I haven't done that since I had my little "intracranial bleed".
and my house is pretty clean...feels good!

Have a good week.

Five for Friday.....March 18, 2016

Spring break is already coming to a close.  It went too fast!

I did some homework this week for school, but overall
my week was a vacation.

Now it is time to join Doodle Bugs Teaching for a party!

ONE

I sorted some boxes out, found some old stuff. Some of it I was so happy to see again and some of it...well I wondered why I had kept it all these years! If I was a quilter some of these tee shirts would make  fine ones for each one of my children. Maybe I should take the summer off and learn how to quilt!

This little guy belonged to my oldest child and was passed down to the next two. My youngest is the most sentimental about him and she took him for
safekeeping.

.......a few shirts from different parts of life.....a long gone school....a concert...a trip to the fair
MEMORIES

TWO

According to cartoonist Chad Carpenter Monday was
"Wear a hat made of pancakes day"

I didn't.
But it is fun to see what will show up on his calendars!

THREE

We had snow for Spring Break and visitors.

They blend in so well!

FOUR

St. Patrick's Day!
Excellent day of grandchildren, Irish Coffee and Darby O'Gill and the Little People. I love that movie. Sean Connery was so young and very handsome of course.

by the way, Irish Coffee is not Weight Watchers friendly,,,oh well

FIVE

Spring break is almost over.

Have a good week, I will try to do the same.

Linking up with Doodle Bugs...Dr. Seuss Week

Wow! I have been out of the loop for a while, it is time to rejoin the Teacher Blogging World and what better way then to link up with

FIRST, This week we celebrated Read Across America and Dr. Seuss. Our school always has a decorating door contest, this year it was expanded to include bulletin boards/walls. There were some GREAT displays, I'm glad I wasn't on the committee to judge. Here are some of my favorites that I have pictures of.

The teacher gave the students this assignment: write about how you would like to make the world a better place. There are some great ideas.

SECOND,  our door.....

THIRD, this one has a little of everything! It was the winner.

FOURTH, I just celebrated my 4th week on Weight Watchers and have lost 6 whole pounds. It's going to take a while that's for sure!
Here's a way to have healthy, fast and easy smoothies.

For any WWs out there, one half serving is 2 points. The one half serving is about 8 oz. made with water. It is pretty good, of course, it would be better with some more sweet!

FIFTH! It is SPRING BREAK for us next week!!!! WOOOOO!

Have a great week, I plan to!

Linking up with Doodle Bugs for Christmas Cheer

Hello!
I wanted to share some of our Christmas theme activities while linking with Doodle Bugs Teaching.

Adapted books are a great resource. I find that hard page books stand up the best.

This is a simple matching activity for counting backwards from 10 to one.

Folder activities are always easy to put together.

Here is another matching activity for letters while decorating two trees.

Book and puppet activities are always popular!

Are you Grumpy Santa? makes kids laugh and gives them a different point of view of Christmas Eve.
The Santa for coloring and gluing is from Teacher's Friend publications, I did a little looking around for them online, but didn't find them. I have had this a long time and maybe it is not publishing anymore, not sure. Anyone know?

Of course, we had to read
The Polar Express!

Adding cotton balls to any steam train picture makes it a bit more special.

The snowman sequence is from Communication Skill Builders. Again, I have had it in my winter box for a loonnng time and I'm not sure if this particular one can be found anywhere to purchase. When I was hunting for it I did find a 4 part snowman sequence on the Scholastic website.

We had a lot of fun this last week, and I love wearing all my beautiful Christmas sweaters and vests and socks.....and hats....

Link up with Doodle Bugs and
Have a wonderful holiday,

Paula

Five for Friday...Coming soon! Last week before Holiday break....AKA Wild Week!

ONE

This was my first week back to school after 9 long weeks!
It went very well, mostly because of the wonderful people I work with.

My Schedule has changed a bit, I have a session with a couple of guys who are very difficult to get and keep engaged. There isn't a specific subject to address at the time I have them, I get to be creative.

Naturally with the holiday spirit surrounding us, there are lots of fun activities that fit right in.

TWO

I found this activity last summer and tried it out with our summer class. It was a HUGE success! They loved it and couldn't get enough. It is called exploding treasure chests and the idea
is from

Sooooooo

I decided to repeat this recipe calling it
Exploding Christmas Presents!

This recipe fills 2 ice trays.
Mix 1 cup of water, 3 cups of baking soda and sprinkle some Jello (for color..and it smells good). It will be thick.

Spoon some in each compartment in the ice tray, about half full, place a treasure in each ( I mostly use coins). Next spoon some more on top covering the treasure.

Then, sprinkle some glitter on top and place into the freezer.

Overnight is long enough.

Prepare vinegar by pouring some in squirt bottles.

Put a cube in a bowl and hand the students the vinegar.
The chemical reaction fizzes and treasures are revealed!
Your kids will love it!

Three

In math we are reviewing number families, counting by 10's and 5's.

Number families as presented by Connecting Math Concepts.

I apologize for not identifying the provider of these cards, I've been using them a couple of years and can't remember who I purchased them from!

FOUR

Countdown!

FIVE

This is a fun project I found on Pinterest.
The Clifford book, Christmas Wishes went well with it.
Students love to paint and sprinkle glitter!
It went fast also.

Stay calm, deep breaths,
and link up with Doodle Bugs Teaching!

Five for Friday...It's already December????

FINALLY I went to the Neurologist .....and saw his Physician's Assistance. This was okay with me, she was nice, explained the brain pan very well and answered all my questions. I also liked HER assistant. I just thought it was a little funny...I've waited 8 weeks to see the neurologist and you know.....but really it was okay.

I learned some new things.
Did you know that some herbal supplements and teas will thin your blood?
OMG!
I've been drinking chamomile tea and shouldn't be!

To anyone who is new to this very interesting and informative blog...
I had a stroke and have been home resting, healing, waiting to get a new MRI and see the Neurologist who will decide that I am healed up and am ready to return to work.

The nice PA did sign my RETURN TO WORK AUTHORIZATION.

So I return on Monday

Wahoooooooo!

no...really....I am ready to return...I miss the other teachers, teacher assistants, office staff, the custodian, the nutritional services person and
THE KIDS

ready, ready, ready!

Check in with me on Monday evening...I'll probably be draggggggging.

We are doing our Christmas decorating at home.

Our pets are preparing  for the big day too!

Made a cozy spot in our basement, it is also my exercise area.

We will add a TV and DVD player eventually, the laptop will do just fine for now.

There is always a friend to keep me company!

I am a little short on things to share this week. However, next week I will have some "teacher stuff" to share!!

Don't forget to link up with Doodle Bugs!!

Later,
